Oral care producer Colgate has launched app-enabled Smart Electronic Toothbrush E1 featuring artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.

Available exclusively online and at select Apple stores in the US, the product is integrated with real-time feedback tool Apple ResearchKit, which collects the user’s toothbrushing data to encourage better oral healthcare.

Colgate-Palmolive Company chief technology officer Dr Patricia Verduin said: “Our goal is simple. We want people to have their healthiest smiles by brushing their best.

“The first step to improving brushing is to understand consumers’ brushing habits, and Apple ResearchKit has proved to be a powerful tool for this.”

Designed in consultation with dentists, the electronic toothbrush provides real-time feedback to improve brushing habits and helps prevent oral problems.

It features real-time sensors and artificial intelligence algorithms to detect brushing effectiveness in 16 zones of the mouth.

Powered by Kolibree, the app-enabled toothbrush uses Bluetooth connectivity and sonic vibrating technology.

Kolibree uses proprietary technology and patented M2M technology for its connected sonic AI-embedded toothbrushes with 3D motion sensors.

The Colgate Connect app also features a 3D brushing coach.

Dr Verduin further added: “Connected health devices like the new Colgate Smart Electronic Toothbrush provide a valuable opportunity to enable people to monitor their health and wellness.

“Using Apple ResearchKit to expand the boundaries of oral care is a testament to Colgate’s drive to create innovative solutions that help people take better care of themselves.”
