Evonik opens centre for plant-based active ingredients in Tours, France

Evonik has opened a new site for its subsidiary Evonik Advanced Botanicals in Tours, France.

Currently part of the personal care business segment, the subsidiary was created in 2016. Evonik intends to develop the new site into a facility for plant-based active ingredients.

The firm also expects that the location's proximity to the University of Tours will aid its future growth and provide opportunities for collaboration.

Evonik’s Personal Care Business Line head Dr. Tammo Boinowitz said: “Our impressive portfolio of cosmetic active ingredient specialties already includes ceramides, sphingolipids, and peptides, so we are pleased to complement these with this very attractive technology."

With the new facility, Evonik will be able to provide customers tailored, plant-based, high-performance, active ingredients in concentrated and reproducible forms.

The new location is designed to manufacture commercial quantities of plant extracts, and several customer projects for tailored products are already at an advanced stage. Evonik intends to offer its products developed at its new facility in Tours from next year.

Evonik Advanced Botanicals has developed a process for cultivating plant biomass under laboratory conditions and recovering beneficial extracts achieving a high yield of complex ingredients.
