Mary Kay appoints new chief scientific officer

US-based beauty brand Mary Kay has appointed Dr Lucy Gildea as chief scientific officer at its headquarters in Addison, Texas.

Set to lead global research and development operations, Dr Gildea will work towards developing new products and expanding the number of patents. In addition, she is expected to develop and execute the firm's Global Product Strategy and Innovation Pipeline, which has secured more than 1,300 patents for its products, technologies, and packaging designs.

Mary Kay's chief supply chain officer Thomas Cho said: "Dr Gildea's proven track record and success to embed high-efficacy science in the personal care product industry will enhance Mary Kay's ability to provide innovative products and technology that consumers are unable to find elsewhere.

"From her time working internationally, Dr Gildea's global perspective brings great value as Mary Kay continues to expand and works to understand the needs of customers in all markets."

Dr Gildea previously worked for 15 years at Procter & Gamble in health care, oral care, beauty technology, and product development. She said: "The opportunity to serve as the new chief scientific officer for Mary Kay allows me to marry my passions for science, innovation, and empowering women.

"Through leading Mary Kay's global research and development (R&D), I am excited to be on the front lines of innovation to create beauty products that invigorate our independent sales force, as well as their customers, around the world."

With operations in up to 40 countries, Mary Kay's portfolio of products includes skincare, colour cosmetics, and fragrances.
