Shiseido introduces smile rating app

Japanese cosmetics firm Shiseido has rolled-out an app that rates the level of a person’s smile, with the level beginning at 0% and ending at 120%.

This app rates a person’s smile by measuring movements of the face.

Once users look into a tablet device, the app installed in the device, provides rating on the smile quality.

The app can indicate how perceive the smile, trustworthy, elegant, attractive, beautiful, positive, friendly and lively.

Shiseido company spokeswoman told AFP that: "Even if you have a 120 rating smile, it doesn’t mean it’s the best smile.

"For instance, a smile could be perceived as more elegant even when the overall rating is 80."

From next month, the firm will begin testing the app on 5,000 flight attendants of Japan Airlines.

The attendants will use the app for several months and provide feedback, which will enable Shiseido to make improvements to the app.

The app may be launched by next year.
