SunSense UK backs Which? report on SPF tests

SunSense UK, which is said to be the number one sunscreen in the UK and Australia, has backed UK consumer body Which? report that revealed that some sunscreens are failing to deliver the SPF claimed on their packaging.

Which? assessed around 13 sun creams with a claimed SPF of 30 from brands such as Nivea and Piz Buin, as well as own-brand products from supermarkets including Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Tesco, using British Standard tests.

The tests found that Boots Soltan Protect & Moisturise Lotion SPF30 and Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Lotion SPF30 do not offer the SPF claimed on the label, as well as the protection provided against UVA.

The findings show that sunscreens will lose up to 50% of their label SPF when exposed to water.

SunSense UK responds to Which? report as saying that Australia implements stricter regulations for sunscreen and hence its products offer protection from the sun’s harmful rays.

Manufactured in Australia, SunSense claims that its new formulations meet the country’s new maximum SPF that has been raised to 50+.

To be able to claim SPF50+, a sunscreen must have a static SPF of at least 60, said SunSense.
