Ashland unveils SurfaThix N polymer for cleansing products

US-based company Ashland has launched a new polymer called SurfaThix N, which serves as an all-in-one solution for consumer cleansing products such as shampoo and bodywash.

According to the company, the new polymer features an acrylate-based technology with hydrophobic properties that offers thickening and suspension characteristic to particles and beads used in products, including body and hand washes, as well as facial cleansers.

The polymer has ingredients that cut the need for several rheology modifiers in salt and surfactant-containing systems, reported Happi.

Ashland consumer specialties global new products leader Sarah Thiewes was quoted by Cosmeticsdesign.com as saying: "Exceptional clarity, efficient thickening and stable suspension of particles and beads are essential requirements in rinse-off systems.

"In high-surfactant and salt-containing systems or systems containing cationic ingredients, formulators often made concessions on efficiency to obtain aesthetically appealing personal care products.

"Now with one ingredient, SurfaThix N polymer, it’s possible to maintain clarity and viscosity, while maximising manufacturing efficiencies through continuous processing."

The new polymer’s single-step neutralisation process for neutral pH formulations cuts batch processing time.

Thiewes also added: "The combination of manufacturing efficiencies with the versatility to formulate across the entire range of skin cleansing products, makes it easy to quantify the extra value delivered by SurfaThix N polymer."
