Clariant unveils new skincare agent for indoor pollution

Specialty chemicals company Clariant has unveiled new skincare product Eosidin to control hypersensitivity and atopic-prone skin caused due to indoor pollution.

Derived from green citrus unshiu, the new product is designed to address immuno-modulation. Synephrine, hesperidin, and naringin molecules present in the extract regulate the immuno-modulation and reduce hypersensitivity.

The China-compliant Eosidin targets eotaxin and eosinophils to minimise atopic-prone skin conditions. The ingredient is water soluble and does not affect the colour or smell of products. Formulations designed for use on the face and body  use the ingredient, including body creams, serums, lotions, masks, toners, and facial mists.

Clariant Active Ingredients' global technical marketing manager Alexandre Lapeyre said: "Eosidin offers a truly innovative opportunity to respond to the global anti-pollution trend and answer unmet skin needs from end consumers unaware that indoor pollution is the root of their concern.

"Eosidin is the ultimate solution to counter indoor pollution and bring back good immuno-modulation, and opens up new concepts for personal care finished products targeting itchiness, atopic-prone skin, irritation, and hypersensitivity."

Results from the studies conducted with a test formulation based on 2% Eosidin were found to be significant after four weeks. A 44% reduction in atopic-prone skin condition, 65% decrease in itching index (VAS), 54% increase in hydration, and a 30% drop in transepidermal water loss (TEWL) were found after eight weeks, alongside improved skin barrier function.

In addition, 95% of the clincial volunteers noticed a decrease of skin itchiness and an 86% decrease in dryness.

Clariant intends to launch Eosidin at in-cosmetics Global, which is held from 4 to 6 April in London.
