Dabur India acquires South African cosmetics firm Discaria

Consumer products maker Dabur India has expanded its operations in Africa with the acquisition of South Africa-based cosmetics manufacturing firm Discaria.

The acquisition of Discaria, which was incorporated on 30 March 2015, will be carried on a cash consideration and the cost of acquisition is at par culminating into ZAR1,000 ($69.81).

Under the deal, the company’s wholly owned subsidiary Dabur International acquired 100% share capital of the newly formed Discaria Trading.

In a BSE filing, Dabur said: "Accordingly, Discaria has become a step-down wholly owned subsidiary company of Dabur India with effect from 14 July 2016.”

In a statement in the filing, Dabur added: "Discaria has been acquired to do the business of manufacturing and trading of cosmetics products in South Africa.”

The Economics Times reported an official as saying that Dabur is seeking to launch a greenfield manufacturing facility in South Africa upon completion of the acquisition.

Dabur earlier acquired personal care products company Hobi Kozmetik Group in Turkey for $69m, expanding its presence overseas. It operates one manufacturing facility each in Nigeria and Egypt.

It also purchased Namaste Laboratories in the $100m in 2010, reported VCCircle.

With a portfolio of more than 250 Herbal/Ayurvedic products, Dabur operates in consumer product categories that include haircare, oral care, healthcare, skincare, home care and foods. It has a presence in more than 120 countries worldwide.
