Indian male toiletries sector to reach $708.4m by 2017: Report

The Indian male toiletries sector is set to grow at a CAGR of 14.4% to reach $708.4m by 2017, finds a report by Canadean Health & Beauty.

According to the report, ‘Market Focus: Trends and Developments in the Male Toiletries Market in India’, the 7.2% CAGR growth of Indian male toiletries sector in volume terms during 2012-2017 will outpace the 5.5% CAGR growth recorded during 2007-2012.

The growth reflects the increasingly complex grooming routines among Indian men, supported by their rising disposable income.

Men’s disposable razors & blades category, which accounted for 66.5% of the sector in 2012, will primarily drive the market. The category is estimated to retain its lead over other categories with 65.9% volume share in 2017.

The high volume share of disposable razors & blades is creating demand for rigid plastic and flexible packaging bags/sachets.

Post-shave and pre-shave cosmetics, with CAGRs of 16.5% and 16.4% respectively, are set to be the fastest-growing categories during 2012-2017.

With a CAGR of 2.2% in US dollar terms during 2007-2012, after shaves & Colognes is the lowest growing category during 2007-2012.

The category, however, is expected to grow at a CAGR of 10% between 2012 and 2017 to reach $56.2m.

Younger consumers, pricing strategy, online shopping and increasing focus on post-shave cosmetics are the four trends that are going to alter market dynamics in the coming future, Canadean Health & Beauty report said.
