Unilever in talks to acquire Honest for $1bn

Unilever is holding talks to acquire Honest, a firm owned by Hollywood actor Jessica Alba.

Unilever already owns brands such as Dove soap and Lynx body sprays. The company has been looking for further acquisitions to tap into a younger customer segment in the goods market, reported the Guardian.

The company recently purchased Dollar Shave Club for $1bn.

Honest was co-founded by the Golden Globe-nominated actor in 2011. It sells diapers, cleaning supplies, and beauty products to customers through online subscription.

In an interview with Bloomberg last week, Unilever's chief executive Paul Polman discussed acquiring assets rather than designing new products in house. He said: “An innovative company has to go outside as much as inside. The main incubators for our future innovation capabilities are more likely to be outside than inside."
