China approves new testing methods for cosmetic products

The Shan Xi Inspection and Quarantine Bureau’s four industrial bodies of China have approved bisphenol A and antimony-related testing methods for cosmetics, after taking theinspection standards of imported and exported goods into consideration.

The move was initiated by the China’s Certification and Accreditation Administration (CNCA) in an attempt to fill in the blanks in Bureau’s inspection fields, reported cosmeticsdesign.com.

According to the CNCA , the decision allows the cosmetic testing related fields to fill those blanks for providing a reliable method for routine inspection and regulatory and law enforcement.

The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) in a notice said that two methods – the liquid chromatography and testing of valence of antimony in cosmetics and their ingredients have passed the examination of national industrial standards.

China AQSIQ is a ministerial-level department under the State Council of the People’s Republic of China that supervises food and personal care products and assures the correct safety precautions, as well as administrative law enforcement.

The AQSIQ, in 2011, has surveyed the hair dyes and cosmetics in the market and released the results confirming that all those have complied with national and industrial standards.

The study was conducted on 148 kinds of hair dyes and cosmetics with a random supervision, which was mainly covering the pH value, limit of harmful chemicals such as lead, arsenic and mercury, and the content of other molecules that include Methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate and Resorcinol.
