Sun protection products lead the Suncare market in UK: Report

The Sun Protection category held more than half of the Suncare market in the UK in 2011, says a new report by Canadean – Health & Beauty.

According to "Consumer Trends in the Suncare Market in the UK, 2011", Sun Protection is way ahead of the other two categories in the market (After-sun and Self-tan) with 58% share. After-sun formed 28% and Self-tan 14% of the market.

The market volume held by Sun Protection was 56%.

Consumers having leisure time of 1-3 hours a day used the suncare products more than the others, at 31%. They were followed by users having more than seven hours of leisure.

At 27.4%, older consumers aged above 55 were the largest age group to use the products, with early young adults aged 16-24 years coming next at 15.7%.

Older consumers led the After-sun and the Sun Protection categories with 32.7% and 29.3% respectively, while the early young adults topped the Self-tan category with 31.3%.

Consumers educated up to the post secondary level formed 28.7% of the market while the primary-educated consumers contributed the least at 1.6%.

Whereas the affluent section topped the market with 45.8%, the highly affluent came at the bottom at 6%.

Female users had a marginal lead over the males with 58%. The After-sun category was, however, led by males with 52.6%. The urban-rural share was 69.2-30.8%.

Over 96% of the Self-tan category is held by brands, while it is more than 75% in the other two.
Individualism at 24.5% and Better value for money at 23.9% were the most influencing trends for consumers to use suncare products.
