Codex Beauty’s Bia skincare line receives microbiome-friendly certification

US-based beauty skincare company Codex Beauty has announced that its skincare line, Bia, has received microbiome-friendly certification.

It has received MyMicrobiome Standard 18.10 for all its six face products including Day Cream, Skin Superfood, Eye Gel Cream, Facial Oil, Exfoliating Wash, and Wash Off Cleansing Oil.

Bia skincare is claimed to hydrate and nourish skin with quality ingredients. Bia features a patent-pending preservative system to support microbiome diversity and skin barrier integrity.

The Microbiome-friendly certification represents a seal of quality awarded to microbiome-friendly cosmetics and personal care products.

Developed in 2018 by MyMicrobiome AG, MyMicrobiome Standard 18.10 is one of six standards, with each standard testing for application on different body areas.

In 2019 the first Microbiome-friendly certified products reached the German market.

Located in Liechtenstein, MyMicrobiome AG carries out tests according to MyMicrobiome Standards in ISO certified laboratories in Germany.

The microbiome is considered to be important to human health. It represents the total amount of microbes (bacteria, viruses, fungi) living on and in our body. Microbiome is often destroyed by several factors, such as antibiotics, poor diet, and skincare products that strip the surface of the dermis, thereby removing the healthy bacteria required to maintain clear, healthy skin. If there is no robust microbiome, unwanted organisms can colonise on the skin, leading to skin conditions.

In addition to Microbiome-friendly seal of quality, Codex Beauty holds certifications from EcoCert COSMOS Organic, Leaping Bunny, EWG (The Environmental Working Group), PEFC (Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification), Carbon Footprint Standard, and Vegan.
