CeraVe has launched a mineral sunscreen to help consumers take better care of their skin without the tradeoffs.

The new product called Hydrating Sunscreen uses titanium dioxide and zinc oxide to protect against UV rays.

CeraVe said the product is formulated with broad-spectrum sun protection and three ceramides to protect consumer’s skin in the sun while locking in moisture.

The mineral filters in CeraVe Hydrating Sunscreen, which is free of fragrances, parabens and oil, sit on the surface of the skin to reflect the sun rather than absorbing into the skin.

The Skin Cancer Foundation has recommended the product for daily use. It has secured the National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance.

A survey undertaken by CeraVe found that just 2% of dermatologists say they believe their patients take sun protection very seriously.

According to the survey, 24% of dermatologists believe that up to 75% of their patients are lying about how much sunscreen they use and how often they use it.

“CeraVe knows there is a need for products with SPF that consumers not only understand, but will want to use.”

Three-quarters (75%) believe that less than half of their patients are reapplying sunscreen throughout the day and 76% said that less than 25% of their patients understand the difference between UVA and UVB rays.

52% of dermatologists believe the most confusing part about using sunscreen for patients is when to use it and how often to apply.

CeraVe vice-president of marketing Derrick Booker said: “This survey underscores a lack of understanding of the need for proper sun protection measures among consumers. CeraVe knows there is a need for products with SPF that consumers not only understand, but will want to use.

“We’re proud to offer a mineral sunscreen with moisturising benefits that our consumers can feel good about putting on their skin every day.”

CeraVe offers several therapeutic skincare products that are developed with dermatologists and feature an exclusive combination of ceramides 1, 3 and 6-II, which are essential to restoring and maintaining the skin’s natural barrier.
