Mary Kay to build $100m manufacturing facility in Lewisville, Texas

Beauty brand Mary Kay has finalised the city of Lewisville in Denton County, Northern Texas, as a future site for its new $100m global manufacturing and research and development (R&D) facility.

The move follows the company’s review to identifywhether to renovate its existing manufacturing operations in Dallas or build a new facility.

Mary Kay identified a plot of land in the city of Lewisville. The company said it will not disclose the exact location until closing of the property purchase.

Mary Kay president and CEO David Holl said: "We are committed to the latest in technological innovation and Mary Kay’s new facility will be on the leading edge of design, construction and production.

"Our analysis identified a site in Lewisville as the optimal location for our new facility that will enable us to continue to provide the highest quality skin care and color cosmetics for our more than 3.5 million independent sales force members worldwide."

The company considered various parameters while selecting the Lewisville site which included employee and logistics, proximity to other local facilities and its headquarters in Addison.

David Holl said:"Today, approximately 75 percent of our business is overseas and yet more than 50 percent of Mary Kay products produced at our current manufacturing facility are exported to our international markets.

"So, it’s essential that we continue to have state-of-the-art manufacturing and R&D facilities to produce the best-in-the-industry products to our independent sales force and ultimately to our Mary Kay brand lovers around the world."

Construction on the new facility is slated to start in July 2016 and the project is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2018.
